The Orange Swim Buoys Tri Club and OSB Triathlon Coaching will be hosting a series of beginner bike rides and clinics. In this 11-week program, beginner cyclists will learn everything from what to carry on the bike and how to change a flat to the basics of nutrition and hydration for longer rides. Clinics and rides will be taught and led by a USA Triathlon Certified Coach and hosted by The Orange Swim Buoys Tri Club a USA Triathlon Certified Club.

The series of clinics(3) and rides(9) will teach the beginner cyclist how to be self-sufficient on the bike and teach the basic skills needed to manage a bike ride of any length. Ride distances will start at 10 miles with a small increase in distance each week and ending with a 50-mile ride. During each ride, you will also be given tips on cycling techniques and skills to make you more efficient, stronger and faster. Each cyclist will also be given a schedule of during-the-week rides that are designed to make you a more efficient cyclist and prepare you for the next weeks’ ride. February 13th and March 20th there will be no organized ride. A route map will be provided for you to follow on your own.

When you are finished with this clinic you will be prepared to take on events like el Tour de Mesa, Oracle Road Race/Ride, the Tucson Bicycle Classic and participate in the local bike shop rides.

Clinics and rides will be every Sunday, 9:00 AM, see schedule below, at one of the locations specified in Mesa or Chandler. You are responsible for your transportation to and from the specified location.

        • How to change a flat – 60 minutes – repeat
    • Clinic #3 – 60-90 minutes
      • Pre-ride clinic
        • Drafting
        • Hills – climing/descending
        • Beneficial workouts that will make you more efficient
        • What is Rate of Perceived Exertion(RPE)?

Bike ride distances and start locations: Distance, clinics and locations may change

PLEASE NOTE: Some cycling routes are still being determined.

What you need to attend:

Cycling helmet – Mandatory on each ride.

Road or Gravel type of Bike.
Mountain Bikes, Fitness Bikes, and Single Speed Road Bikes are acceptable but not recommended.
All Bikes must have 2 working brakes prior to the start of each ride. The ride pre-check will be performed on the first day and before each ride. If your bike does not have 2 working brakes or has other damage that may affect your safety or the safety of others, you will not be allowed to ride with the group until repaired.

Water carriers: 2 Water bottles and water bottle cages mounted to your bike or a hydration backpack.

Ride clothing: Cycling jersey, cycling shorts. Clothing should have pockets to carry snacks or optionally you may want to use a bento bag mounted on your bike. You may also carry snacks in a hydration pack.

Gear: A saddle bag with a spare inner tube, manual air pump or CO2 cartridge with handheld inflator, tire levers.

Recommended (Optional): A bike computer and heart rate monitor trap or wearable device that will track cycling metrics such as speed, cadence, heart rate.

NOTE: Fixed Gear Bikes, e-Bikes, Cruiser and Fat Tire Bikes are not suitable or acceptable for these clinics or rides. You may attend the clinics and not ride if you do not have an appropriate bike.

*Cost: The clinic is $129.00 per person. Veterans with proof of military service will receive a 10% discount.

*Refund Policy: All refund requests must be sent to mike@osbtri.com. To receive a full refund the request must be received 7 days prior to the date of the first clinic/ride. Refunds requests received within 7 days prior to the start date will be eligible for a 50% refund. Refund requests received on or after the clinic start date will not be honored. Refunds will be processed during the week after the first clinic/ride has taken place. In the event of inclement weather; sessions may be canceled or moved to a future date. Orange Swim Buoys Tri Club (OSB Triathlon Coaching) reserves the right to cancel the clinic at which time prorated refunds will be provided for remaining sessions.
